El Desafio Mountain Resort is a 50%/50% partnership of Hicks Trans American Partners with Terra Patagonia, an Argentine real estate development company focusing in Patagonia. El Desafio is a unique luxury development encompassing an entire mountain of 1,050 hectares (2,500 acres) in the Province of Neuquen, Argentine Patagonia. This exclusive mountain resort, currently under construction and its initial sales stage, will feature a Greg Norman Signature golf course, two professional polo fields, horse jumping and equestrian facilities, low density residential lots, a luxury hotel and mountain spa, and a 600 hectare natural reserve with activities such as trekking, horse riding, mountain biking and nature watching, in a pristine environment affording amazing views of the Andes mountains. El Desafio will provide homeowners and guests privileged access to world-class skiing, rafting and fly-fishing, among other activities.
In January and March of 2006, Hicks Holdings acquired a total of 990 acres in Bariloche, Argentine Patagonia. Dos Valles will be developed into a mix use planned community, with gated residential lots for the middle-income market, featuring amenities such as trekking and mountain bike trails, river beaches, and several sports facilities. The development includes commercial property on a main highway and ancillary services such as schools. In February of 2007, Hicks Holdings received an offer to sell approximately 100 acres that will not be part of the development at over 5x of basis.
Since August of 2006, and through several acquisitions, Hicks Holdings has purchased a total of 1.237 acres close to Bariloche, Argentine Patagonia. The land will be developed into a high-end residential and hotel development, featuring a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, home of the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club/Patagonia, a 5-star hotel, a boutique luxury hotel, apartments, and lots for second homes. The location is convenient to Cathedral Ski resort, dozens of beautiful lakes and rivers, and national parks with excellent hiking and sightseeing possibilities.
